The importance of maintaining your Porsche

Porsche Austin owners may have a fancy car, but they don't have any less responsibility to maintain it. The Porsche shape is a status symbol that it's easy to get tricked into thinking you can neglect your vehicle and still have it running smoothly. Porsches are a high-end luxury vehicle, which means that the components inside will not last as long as a standard car. A Porsche owner needs to follow the recommended service guidelines in order for their vehicle to last long, be safe, and free of repair costs.

Porsche maintenance is crucial in keeping your vehicle running at its top performance. Maintaining your Porsche will not only save you money on future repairs, but also maintain its resale value, which is a standard for luxury vehicles. The average useful life of a Porsche vehicle is approximately 30 years from the date it was manufactured

Wash your Porsche weekly to remove any dirt or dust

The easiest way to do this is with a quick-detail spray and a microfiber cloth, following the instructions on the label. You can clean deeper into your vehicle's nooks and crannies by using a brush coupled with a damp sponge or wash mitt. If you have a Porsche SUV, it's important to clean the corners and control arms where grime and mud tend to build up

Use a wax on the exterior of the car every six months to protect it from UV rays and pollution

For optimal protection, your Porsche needs to be waxed every six months. When applying the wax, use a clean applicator or sponge to work it in evenly in small sections. After you have treated the entire exterior of your car with wax, buff it off with a soft microfiber cloth. If you see swirls left behind from the wax, don't worry. It's a sign that the wax didn't soak into your vehicle and that it needs to be reapplied

Replace cabin air filters every 15,000 miles or once a year

Cabin air filters remove odors from outside of your car while also filtering out dust particles. Most cabin air filters cost around $20 to $30 and are an easy DIY replacement. Porsche recommends replacing your cabin air filter once a year or every 15,000 miles

Keep an eye out for cracks in the paint, which can be easily repaired with touch-up paint

Porsche cars are painted with a special clear coat that can be easily scratched and worn down. The clear top layer of paint on your car will absorb most of the beating from road salt and stones, so it is extremely important to keep an eye out for chips and scratches. Look over your vehicle carefully for any wear and tear on the panels and touch them up with paint if necessary

Keep your tires properly inflated

The pressure for your Porsche's tires will be listed on the driver's side door jamb. Check this often to ensure that your vehicle is not running low on air. Underinflated tires can lead to compromised handling, uneven wear patterns, and tire failure. Underinflated tires are also more hazardous in wet conditions, so it is important to get them checked regularly

Change your air filter once every 20,000 miles

An air filter keeps dust and debris from entering the engine of your Porsche through the intake. The air filter should be replaced once every 20,000 miles or once a year. You can find the air filter behind the engine of your vehicle on top of a plastic cover

Your Porsche needs to have a new battery every three years

Your Porsche has a computer chip in the key fob that is constantly monitoring how often you unlock and lock your doors. When this information is sent to the car's main computer, it adjusts the amount of power to the battery. If you have a strong, sudden need for extra power while driving, it could drain your battery and leave you stranded on the side of the road

Change your oil every 3,000 miles or as recommended by manufacturer

An oil change is one of the easiest, most important maintenance steps you can take for your Porsche. If you neglect an oil change for longer than recommended by the manufacturer, you can end up with engine failure, which will cost you a lot of money to replace. Porsche recommends that you change your oil every 3,000 miles or once every two months
