How to keep your car's AC in good working order

It is important to keep your car's AC in good working order. If the air conditioner stops working, you may need a new compressor or condenser and it can be expensive. It is best to take care of any problems before they happen by periodically checking for issues such as leaks and dirty evaporator coils. Regular maintenance will help prevent these problems from occurring and save you money in the long run.

Before getting Auto Air Conditioning Repair Austin, refer to an owner's manual or contact a service technician. Service records may help to determine what type of problems may be occurring.

Check the air filter monthly and replace as needed.

A clogged air filter will not allow the engine to breathe properly and could cause a drop in cooling system performance.

Check for external leaks around air conditioning lines, condenser or evaporator coils according to your owner's manual. If you see signs of leakage, take it to a service technician as soon as possible to avoid further damage.

Add a cooling system cleaner to your car's water

when you change your car's cooling system fluid. This will help remove contaminants and prevent corrosion.

Regularly clean a dirty evaporator coil, located in the air outlet of the unit, by removing it from the system and spraying cleaner on all sides with a garden hose or pressure washer until it is thoroughly wet. Let it dry before re-installing it.

If you notice a strange smell when the air conditioner is running, have your car's AC system professionally serviced immediately. The strange odor could be an indication of a refrigerant leak and can become dangerous if inhaled or allowed to accumulate in enclosed spaces.

Check for compressor problems by turning on the AC with the car parked with the engine off. If there is a sound followed by a clicking noise, the compressor may be worn out and need to be replaced. This would indicate you have further AC system problems.

Have your AC inspected annually by a professional.

A service technician will be able to check for leaks, torn or loose hoses and worn out parts.

If you find any issues with your car's AC system, take it in for servicing immediately to avoid further damage and make sure to always use the right type of coolant since different cars require either regular or synthetic types.

Change your cabin air filter at least once per year, more often if you have pets or allergies

.

A dirty cabin air filter will prevent good airflow through the AC vents and may cause heating problems as well.

Don't use the recirculate feature when driving in dusty conditions or on unpaved roads because dust can build up in your AC unit, blocking airflow.

If your car's AC sounds strange during operation, have it checked out by a professional immediately.

A service technician will be able to determine what is wrong and make any necessary repairs.

Never pull the radiator cap while the engine is running because high pressure hot coolant can spray out, which can cause serious injury.

If your car's AC fails during extreme heat or cold weather, you may need to add more refrigerant.
