Common Problems With Beetles

As if the constant hosing of the weather in Austin, Texas wasn't bad enough, now they have a Volkswagen Beetle that just about everyone drives. Unfortunately, it does have a common problem that plagues all Volkswagen models, and that is getting into the oil. But luckily, along with any other Beetle issue you may be experiencing. Not only do they have specialized services for this type of vehicle, but they also sell parts to you in order to fix your own vehicle. The following are some Austin Volkswagen Repair tips that may come in handy when your Beetle breaks down or requires some general maintenance.

One of the most common causes of an Austin Volkswagen Repair is simply oil leakage. While the engine uses the largest amount of oil, it is not the only one that leaks. As with so many other cars, they tend to suffer from some sort of lubricant or fluid loss in the engine. This can cause serious problems, so it is very important that you check and change the oil as soon as you think there might be a leak.

You can get this type of fluid from your local service station. You need to open up the hood, then you will need to locate the drain plug. You need to see if there is one right next to the oil cap. If there is not a plug, you can use a screwdriver to pry it loose. Make sure to pay close attention to how the oil cap moves when you do this.

If you have never changed the oil in your Beetle before, you will want to take your time. Do not rush this process. You don't want to do more harm than good, or end up with even more damage done. Before you do anything, make sure you get the proper tools out, such as an adjustable wrench and an oil container.

The first thing you will have to do is disconnect the battery. Then, you need to look for any signs of fluid leaking, which could be a sign of a dirty engine. Next, check the timing belt. It is possible that this has come loose. If not, then it may be time to replace it. There are two common problems that occur with this component - worn belts, and a bad seal.

Oil Leakage - This is by far the most common problem with Beetles. It can also be caused by over-filling and under-filling. This is something that you can prevent by filling up the tank only half way full, according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Over-filling occurs when the oil gets too saturated, which causes the mixture to break free from the oil pump.

Over-filling can be prevented by changing the oil filter, and also adding some oil to the tank. If you notice that your car needs more oil, then you can add more as needed. In case of an over-fill, you need to check the drain plug and the oil filter. Sometimes all you need to do to get the car back on track is just to replace the drain plug. If you need more help on this topic, then you can always consult a mechanic.

Engine Lights Go Off - Finally, if your vehicle continues to be difficult to start, or if you hear noises when starting the engine, then it could be an electrical problem in the engine. Consult a mechanic before attempting to correct these faults. Another problem that can cause your engine to start but no lights to appear is a 'factory default'. This basically means that your vehicle was designed to run without factory settings, and that means that there is a problem with the fuel or other specification. You should not fix these settings yourself, as this could lead to serious damage to your vehicle.
